As we continue to go through this pandemic, we have started to put our baking skills to the test. Homemade bread, banana bread, pizza dough, and every other amazing baking treats. Baking is such a hassle itself, but what if you can bake with only 2 ingredients? What? 2 ingredients? What about the yeast? The water? And resting time? You can throw your worries away.
Weight watchers have created a recipe for homemade bagels with only 2 ingredients. Now, you can make homemade bread with this recipe as well, but this review will be based on the bagels. In addition, this recipe does not call for yeast… What? That is impossible, right? As it turns out, it’s possible.
Ingredients:
1 cup of plain Greek yogurt
1 cup of self-rising flour
(for 1 cup of flour: 1 ½ tsp baking powder + ½ tsp salt)
Toppings:
1 egg wash
white sesame seeds
(you can add your own toppings if you like)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. line your cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. In a large low place the Greek yogurt in a cheesecloth and let it drain in the fridge for 2 hours. (the water in the yogurt will make the bagels very dense and wet.)
3. Once the water is drained, mix your yogurt and flour in a mixing bowl with a dough hook and mix until the ingredients create a ball.
4. Afterward, knead your dough until you have a softball. Cut into 4 pieces and roll them until you get a rope shape.
5. They should be about 8 inches.
6. Wrap each end so they meet and pinch so they are connected.
7. Place them on your baking sheet 2 inches apart, brush your egg wash and sprinkle your sesame seeds (or anything else you want) on top.
8. Bake for about 23-25 mins or until golden brown. Let cool for 10 mins.
9. ENJOY!
