One of my favourite ingredients when it comes to cooking or garnishing is olive oil. Why olive oil specifically? I’ve grown up working, cooking and making olive oil; it’s my comfort ingredient. I know what goes well with it and which foods pair.
Olive oil is a harmful fat extracted from olive trees which originated in Greece dating back to 2500 BC, which make sense due to every dish staring olive oil. However, the top three mass producers of olive oil will surprise you; no Greece is not number one. First place is Spain, second Italy and third Greece; which is odd considering olive oil originated from Greece.
Olive oil isn’t just great with food, it’s very beneficial for your health. It’s used in skincare routines, hair masks, and other health benefits. Which include; reducing inflammation, prevent strokes, heart disease, reduces diabetes and many more. Personally, I use olive oil in my own hair care routine. It’s great with smoothing, anti-frizz and shiny hair. In addition, it makes your hair stronger and less likely to give you split ends.
Food pairing olive oil may seem difficult, but it’s useful not just for cooking, but for baking as well. some recipes call for either butter or oil to make mainly cupcakes or muffins. Now, you can use butter but it gives the cakes a denser feel. However, olive oil can give the cakes a more flaky and softer texture.
As I talk more and more about how beneficial olive oil can be, some of you may decide that there are other healthier oils to use other than olive oil. That way me true, but my heart will always be with olive oil. It’s comforting, delicious and resourceful just like a fuzzy blanket on a cold snowy day.
