Spice up your Thanksgiving aftermath.

One of my favourite holidays of the year would have to be Thanksgiving. The time to give thanks to our loved ones, seeing your whole family get together, and the best part… the FOOD! Some families make a small meal and some families make a huge feast. It doesn’t matter how much you make, what matters is that you share with the ones you love. However, once the feast is done, you have lots of leftovers. Now, a couple of days with thanksgiving leftovers is fine, but a whole week of it can get tiring.

My thanksgiving consisted of two huge meals; my dad’s side and my mother’s side. At my dad’s side, my aunt makes her traditional turkey and a full ham with of course her additional side dishes. My mother’s side whipped up two turkeys and a full pig with the add on side dishes. You can imagine the leftovers we have, it will feed us for the next month.

In addition, I like to be creative with my leftovers without being wasteful. I decided to make a Sheppard’s pie with turkey meat. I had leftover mashed potatoes, veggies, turkey meat and gravy. I sautéed the meat and added the veggies until everything was incorporated. Then, I put the meat mixture into a deep baking pan and added the mashed potatoes, with an egg wash to brown the top. Baked the pie until the bottom was bubbling and served.

Another great waste less dish is light and easy. People usually eat the white meat because of the lean side. What can you do with the dark meat? Simple; shred the meat and put it in your turkey broth you made with the carcass. Add your vegetables and add any kind of pasta and you have Turkey soup.

These are some leftovers I make to spice things up. It is perfectly fine to heat up what is left from Thanksgiving. You can be as creative and as simple as you like, it’s all about your preference. I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving with a full stomach and happy memories.
